Similar to music, dance form of the Africa American also originates from the traditional folklore of Africa and with is mixture and fusion with conservative European dance forms. During 1880s, these dance forms were attached with the minstrel shows in order to minimize popular beliefs and it helped raise some kind of awareness among African Americans. Following this, the African dancers were joined with American dancers who made dance forms like the Jitterbug, the Lindy Hop and the Charleston. African Americans were soon hired in popular musicals by white choreographers like Bill Robinson. African American brought their dance very early on during the 1500s to North and South America, and they used a lot of fusion dance forms which had European influence in them (Aaregistry.org, 2015). Slave labor was one of the reasons that contributed to this introduction of dance and the rising influence. The Africans that were treated as slaves during those times needed to entertain themselves and they use dance as a form which they originally brought from Africa. They used to dance in groups and solo performances were also promoted and these forms took new position among the dancers and it came to be noticed by other white dancers and the industry personnel. It continued to gain popularity and gave rise to fusion dances between African and American dancers. The most significant influence African dance form has had on America is the swing form of dance which they brought along from African culture (Savoystyle.com, 2015). So it is evident that the influence is deep, impactful, and long lasting which has continued until today where African dance forms has taken center stage in multiple sections of the movie and entertainment industry.
The immigration pattern of Africans to America was more on compulsion basis and in search of better prospects of shelter, food, quality of life and political rights. It influenced America heavily and in terms of employment and work ethics which were different from the Americans (Conrad, 2005).
