The process of mobile based learning leads to the creation of seamless environment for the process of learning. It is something which acts as the bridge between the formal and informal process of interaction. Mobile phones are very useful for the process of learning. In fact, mobile devices are something which can fit to the pockets of the students and are available for them. Another great feature of the mobile based learning is that most of the mobile phone based learning programs provides the information in the bits. The learners also feel that it is much easier to keep the mobile devices than keeping the books (Kadyte, 2004). They are happy to use mobile phones than having large lessons on the paper. Also, there are many pushing messages for the individual learners in the mobile phones. Because of this, the users get a maximum access to the contents. With the passage of time, this exposure also helps in the enhancement of the different processing activities of the person leading to the greater retention within him (Sharples, 2002). For example, the mobile devices may provide a small list of vocabulary at one time in the form of a presentation. In comparison to this, learning through the use of books is something which is much tougher and includes all the vocabularies in a single chapter, making it uncomfortable and difficult for the student. It has been found that the learning which is based on mobile technologies is providing a lot of exposure to the learners as it enables them to do self-learning at any point of time and at any place. According to the survey done by IT Facts, it has been found that the penetration of mobile phones in the education has been facilitating the learning process (Valentine et al, 2009).
According to the research conducted by Thornton and Houser on the effectiveness of the process of learning via mobile phones, on the students from Japan colleges has found that the students who had learned vocabulary from internet by using the mobile phone were much more efficient in comparison to the one who did the same via a pc (Thornton & Houser, 2005). The researchers revealed that, in the longer version website available through the PC listed the full context which was difficult for the children to concentrate rather than the easy paraphrasing available through the mobile phone. Another benefit of using the mobile phone is that it helps in the regular enhancement of the studies for the learners (Kukulska-Hulme, 2006). This leads to the creation of a detailed presentation related to lessons by the process of giving a better exposure to different kinds of words. Because of mobile learning, there can be an easier and a better memorization of the words. By the help of mobile technology the learners can get the most suitable form of interaction.
Mobile learning has some of the limitations such as the reduction in its screen size, inheritance of the portability related to the mobile phone, delivery of the texts on the paper and presentation of different kinds of learning based lessons.
In the present times, the use of mobile technology for the process of learning is something which is not unique device to be considered as a medium of learning for the person of reconsideration of the educational activity which may include educational learning (Lan et al, 2007). This kind of learning can be easily facilitated by the use of wireless technologies and specially the mobile device. Thus, mobile based learning can be defined as the experience which has been created in order to make the best use of the interest of learners.
