The industry employs around 1.6 million workers directly. The industry is calculated to be developing at 9-12% during the period 2002 to 2007. The food products value addition is expected to increase from the present 8% to 35% by the decline of 2025. The processing of fruits and vegetables which is presently around 2% of entire production will develop to 25% by 2025. The processed food highest share is in the dairy sector where 37% of the entire produce is processed of this only 15% is processed by the organized sector. In the country the food processing industry is on track to assure profitability in the upcoming decades. The sector is expected to attract phenomenal investments of around 1500 billion in the next decade. The below table shows the different sectors segmentation in food processing industry:
