The emission of SO2 can be reduced by two methods, one method is used in pre-combustion period, and another is used in post-combustion period. The combustion method utilizes the coal for power generation which contains a lower level of sulphur or by treating the coal to make it use for the purpose of power generation. On the other hand, the post-combustion method deploys some techniques and mechanism that support in reducing the SO2 from the effluent gasses. The entire controls might be used distinctively or in combination with each other. It depends upon the quality of coal along with the emission needs. A flue gas desulfurization method can be used to reduce the emission of SO2, and in this process, a chemical reaction with the sorbent like some alkaline substance lime stone mixed with water is used to reduce the SO2 from the flue gas it transforms the SO2 into calcium sulphate. In this process, the SO2 emission can be reduced substantially.

The emission of Nitrogen Oxides can be checked by adjusting the conditions of the combustion chamber, and there are several utilities applied to retrofit the burners as well as to apply equipment that supports in reducing NOx throughout the combustion process (Shepherd and Zhang, 2010). For reducing the NOX, low NOx burner can be used with over fire sir technologies. Apart from this, ammonia is used that produce ammonium nitrate and water vapour so that reduce the NOX emission.
