The Future of Facebook 5 to 10 years down the road: A robust Social Media or a distant memory

Facebook was started or rather discovered in the year 2004 with a view that it will be a good spot for connecting people with their friends and family by sharing their thoughts and photos. It was a better and improvised version of Facemash by Zuckerberg, which had failed in the market. It was only a site where some of the students of Harvard shared their clicks, or rather a place where the photos were rated as “hot or not”, which eventually proved to be a failure and led to the development or introduction of Facebook. So far, there has not been any method or system devised which can actually monetize or en cashes the actual use of Facebook by about 142 million users. Thus, the next level now would be how to extract maximum monetary profit or reap benefits from the huge pool of customer base of this social networking site.(Christofides, Muise, Desmarais, 2009, 343).

There is a paradigm shift in the active use of social networking concept these days. The use of Facebook and others like it are now witnessing lesser people or customers as they have now involved themselves on other messenger applications like WhatsApp, Snapshat and WeChat (Firtman, 2013).
