A city is an appropriate unit of social and local organization as compared to the network of cities in the context of region. The theory of Global City follows a worldwide urban hierarchy through which global corporations manage their production and financial activities. Advancement in globalization has created conflicts and concerns which results in activation of diverse political responses and organizational restructuring efforts. During the past few decades, numerous economic sectors have seemed to involve in huge de-bordering making it highly difficult to say where the US economy ends and the Japanese or German economies begin. Therefore, the monitoring activities that were previously carried out under the tag of central state are integrated into organizations at national level; however other services are moving down to the organizations that are mostly involved in local or regional operations.
The phenomena of globalization highlighted this process therefore; the internalization of markets has resulted in expanding economies of global-city regions. Large-city regions are therefore functioning as regional platforms from which integrated firms or groups of networks challenge global market. Today many regions are facing the cross-border competitive influences. They are forced to either submit to these pressures or actively engage in organizational restructuring and decision-making in order to turn globalization to their benefit. The decision is particularly difficult for city-regions because now it has become difficult for central governance to fulfill varied needs of all the localities under their administration, particularly because of their blatant social relationships.
The complexity is increased in the state of affairs as many cities are facing the crucial task of local political incorporation and management. The tasks are important in time of special insistence at the time when city-regions around the world operate as posts of attraction for low-income labor from all across the globe, therefore their populations are increasingly expanding as multilingual and inter mingled with marginalized social communities almost everywhere. As a result, many city-regions are facing the issue of political participation and local restructuring of political identity and citizenship.
