In multi-religious societies each religion is provided with its own theological streams which are different and unique from other religions. Therefore each religion must respect the values of the other religion. Artists must be provided with the right to blaspheme as a right to believe which in turn will favor their right to speech and expression. Artists through liberal theology and deliberate efforts can promote interchanging of beliefs for which no specialized knowledge of any religion is needed (Becker, 1982). Artists believe that blasphemy is the price paid for being a part of theocracy. Artists want a world which is neutral for all and provide the citizens with the rights of belief for what is pleased to them.
The right to speech and expression is the universal right which is applicable to all the citizens. The right of opinion freedom states that each individual has the right to hold their opinions without interference which cannot be restricted through any exceptions. The right of freedom of expression for individuals is extended to any form of communication i.e. oral and written through media, protests by common public, artistic works and commercial advertising. The right to freedom of expression is not an absolute right and it carries special responsibilities with it that can lead to restrictions on several grounds, for example any artistic material that can lead to violence of any kind and in any community.
Artists want the liberty for their right of expression of their feelings in their art works on any issue whether it is related to society or not. Artists by using any means want to create their art pieces which through their meanings can bring any form of changes in the thinking of the society for better. On the other hand, the law makers and the religious authorities want artists to maintain the social code of conduct specified for them and create paintings which are within the structures of law (Hutcheon, 2000). Artists strongly advocate for freedom of artistic expressions and they want the protestors of blasphemy to understand that censorship must not be used to constrain artists from execution of their rights within law. There are many artists who are censored by others and some do self-censoring due to the fears of adverse consequences.
