When the EL Nino event happens, the wind which blows towards west gets weak besides the equator and due to this change in pressure and speed of wind, the warm water moves towards the east alongside the Equator. This warm water gets thick along the Ecuador, Peru and Chille due to which the separation level of hot water and cold water moves down to 152 meters and hence due to the dense layer of hot water the process of upwelling does not takes place. As a result, the marine animals were not able to make use of nutrients for their survival (Hu et al, 2010).
