Taoism, also spelled as Daoism, is an indigenous tradition of religio-philosophy that has been a major contribution in shaping the life of China since more than the duration of 2000 years. In the widest point of view, the attitude of Taoist towards life can be considered as in the acceptance and yield of sides that are carefree as well as joyful related to the character of China.
In this essay, apart from these two important philosophies, this essay shall be focusing on the essential characters related to Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.
The follower of Confucius, like the one of Lao-tzu, considered Buddha as a wise man and a moral teacher, not being a leader, prophet or a religious god. The main goal of Confucianism is to attain the inner harmony being maintained in nature. The characteristics of Taoism is known to be sharing the same principle with Confucianism. The concepts of Lao-tzu lays stress on the relevance of non-violence and mediation as sources to reach the higher degrees being in existence.
While some Chinese have still been practicing Taoism and Confucianism, these philosophies are known to be losing their impetus because of their resistance from the communist government that is present today. However, there are certain concepts related to Taoism, such as reincarnation, are being expressed within the modern religions of the New Age. As it is the New Age being followed, it can be concluded that the most appropriate philosophy is that of the Taoism.
