PICO Framework
Evidence based practice has considered as the best approach for the implementation of clinical research evidences in the best practice for quality improvement(QI) for selective diseases and transforming healthcare quality. Quality improvement strategies were defined as interventions targeting to reduce the differences between healthcare practices or observation and evidence based practices on the basis of current clinical research and knowledge. A wide variety of quality improvement interventions such as case management, patient education, targeted interventions of developing questions, patients screening for palliative care etc have shown effectiveness.

- Considering processes and outcomes for pain, coordination, continuity, communication and patient distress in palliative care populations, what is the effectiveness of quality improvement interventions?
- In order to improve palliative care focused on advanced cancer patients, what is the evidence for quality improvement in nursing?
Applying PICO Framework
Populations
Seriously ill patients with advanced terminal cancer or ICU patients at life risk were defined as population. Such patients are unlikely to recover or to be cured. Population considers addressing a specific population of patients, their characteristics and other demographic information such as age, sex, history etc. depressive symptums of patients with cancer or ICU patients are also covered. All the conditions of the patients during the medical treatment are included. Various literatures available in the fields of terminal cancer pain and interventions have stronger evidences.
